Sweet Spring and Sultry Summer

Sweet Spring and Sultry Summer Look
For the Love of Makeup Series
::1::

Hello my lovelies!

In celebrating summer growing closer, I thought I'd share two looks today. A sweet spring makeup and a sultry summer makeup. Both share the same bronze and brown smokey eye, but the two lip looks are different (as I'm sure you gathered above). I also figured this would be a great way transitioning day makeup to night makeup, if someone (not me) had a social life. In high school, I seriously said I'd go clubbing dressed as a club sandwich. Some people thought that was funny, while most others just looked at me with pity in their eyes that sort of said, "You poor, sad, deranged girl. Stay away from us" or "It's no wonder she doesn't got any friends!" NAME THAT MOVIE.

Annnnnyway. Forgive the pictures you'll scroll through. I'm not a filmmaker. I wish all the time I knew how to make videos. I mean if this exits, I'm sure it's not that hard, but only time will tell. One day I'd like to upload a makeup tutorial video, but for now, pictures will suffice and I hope you'll bear with me! (:

The Goods
**If you have any questions or suggestions with the products I've used, feel free to leave a comment or email me!**

The Face
Start with a clean face! I use Neutrogena's Oil Free Acne Wash Creme Cleanser. After washing, I moisturize and prime my face, creating a barrier between my skin and the foundation. I've used NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer for a long time and I can't wait to try other products! If you have any suggestions, let me know!

After moisturizing and priming, I dot my foundation all over my face before dabbing it in with a foundation brush. My foundation is L'Oreal True Match in C5 Classic Beige. Then I conceal my dark circles under my eyes and my eyelids with MAC's Pro Longwear Concealer in NC25. I make a large triangle under my eyes and blend that area with my ring fingers. After that's done, I set everything with Ben Nye's Translucent Face Powder in Fair (YEAH STAGE MAKEUP KITS).

The Brows
My favorite part! I fill in my brows with Maybelline's Expert Wear Brow Pencil in Dark Brown. For a more casual look, I leave it at that. However, I wanted the big guns. After filling in the sparse hairs with a pencil, I set everything with my Clinique Eye Shadow in French Roast with an angled brush. It gives the brows a cleaner, sleeker, and sculpted look.

The Eyes
On my last blog post, I went over the same eye shadow look. I had some comments requesting I make a video with how I do my eyeliner and I promise I will! Once things are a little more stable with my home life. How I do a classic cat eye is pretty simple: Draw a line from the bottom lash line out. Create a triangle from the end point to the top lash line. Fill in the triangle with the eyeliner. I coated my lashes with the Zoom Fast Black Lash by MAC. You can see a comparison between mascara and no mascara! Crazy!

The Lips
For the Sweet Spring Look, I simply applied MAC's Craving lipstick and added a bit of highlight on my top lip. For the Sultry Summer Look, I first lined and colored in my lips with Maybelline's Color Sensational Lip Liner in Red 50. I then topped it off with Maybelline's Color Whisper lipstick in Who Wore it Red.

For the Love of Makeup

Oh, blog. How I've missed you.

I've fallen in love with makeup and it's been quite the whirlwind, let me tell you. Tons of contradicting feelings have collided since my initial foray into the makeup world:

Do I deserve this hobby? Yes. Treat yoself.
Is it selfish spending an hour on my face once in a while? Get it gurl.
Does it matter to anyone but me? So what if it doesn't?
Am I fishing for compliments? No.
Am I trying to impress someone? No.
Can I still be a feminist and enjoy makeup? YES.
Am I doing this for my husband, other women, or myself? ???

On and on and on. Goodness gracious. Why must it be so difficult? I have a sneaking suspicion I'm overthinking this whole darn thing haha (as is my specialty). But! There's no denying the pure joy creating the perfect, fierce cat eye.

For this look, I wanted a super simple and understated smokey eye. Zac and I went out with my father in law to Junkyard Cafe last weekend. (The food was out of this world. I had the most amazing Tri-Tip Memphis BBQ Sandwich of my life. Ugh.) (:

I started by putting a neutral creme eye shadow all over the lid as a base. Over that, I patted on a skin toned eye shadow, setting the creme eye shadow. Then I went in with a smaller blending brush and added depth to my crease with a medium brown eye shadow. I added a light sandy color to the center of the lid and then pooped on some dark brown creme eyeliner with an angled brush. Topping it off, I added some awesome Zoom Fast Black Lash mascara by MAC.

I'm thinking of making this a regular series on the blog! Let me know if you'd like to see more of these kinds of posts. (: It's good to be back.

move over james dean

After a long day of writing annotated bibliographies for my amazing ex-professor, Megan Sanborn Jones, it was a special treat getting on Facebook and seeing my show's trailer for the Microburst Theatre Festival. In just 8 days, The Shoelace will be performed at BYU for a paying audience, along with six other AMAZING plays written by other BYU students. You know how mega rad that is?

This weekend, I annotated 67 books, both before and after working 4 hours at Station 22. Took me 5 and a half hours, but they got done. The finished product (all of the articles and books and EVERYTHING) turned out to be 70 pages long. That's 3 months of work all in one document. Haha! I still have a few more things to do, but they're on the back burner for now. (: Tonight, Zac and I went coat shopping. We found several contenders, but in the end, I walked away with a new coat from Zumiez and we're gonna go hunting for Zac again soon!

You know what's also mega rad? Knowing your style and marching to the beat of your own drum. I like that I feel like "me" in a leather/sweater/punk-ish coat, rather than a classic trench. I like that I feel most like "me" when I'm not wearing makeup or when my hair air dries. It's just so nice figuring yourself out, even if it is what you see on the outside.

ULTRA CURLY ATTACK

As it's my day off, I decided to try a brand spankin' new hairstyle. I'm calling it: ULTRA CURLY ATTACK. (: Not the best ever, but it was challenging and fun to try while Zac's at work. He got a promotion yesterday which means 1) AWESOME and 2) Switching to day shifts! He now works 8am-5pm err'day instead of 3:30pm-12am. Here's to more huzzband/wifo time...and boyz time (I came home from work last night to find three sweaty men rolling around in the backyard practicing their jui-jitsu moves). Zac has his first jui-jitsu tournament on Saturday and I'm gonna be the embarrassing wife cheering on her hubby. No shame.
Also, I think I may be channeling Bellatrix Lestrange. (: And I'm obsessed with this song at the moment.

i'm a whimsical fairy, fool.

Well, as you can see, I chopped off all my hair and am quite the whimsical fairy. (:
While sitting in the chair at Shep Studio this morning, it took all of my self control not to squeal and giggle the entire time. It was such a liberating experience, having my "feminine" locks snipped away. Oddly enough, I feel more feminine and delicate with this "boyish" haircut than I ever have in my entire life. Weird? Nah. Just awesome. You know what's also awesome? This Is The End. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. AH.

dare to be feisty

It's amazing how feminine I feel today. Granted, I just popped a pimple on my cheek, I'm doing laundry, and I have yet to shower, but a new haircut makes all the difference. :) Yesterday I went to a professional salon for the first time since I was fourteen. Growing up, my artistic and beauty obsessed older sisters had fun with my head of hair and I didn't have to pay a cent! haha I've even cut my own hair from time to time here at college (oh, goodness).
I went to the new studio on byu's campus and got a wash, cut, and style for just $22. The whole time, I was nervous, but more nervous about making chit chat with my stylist than with what she was doing to my head. haha I just wanted to see the end result! We giggled with each other and commented on how soft my hair was after she chopped off four inches. I love feeling healthy and sometimes I worry I'm not too good to my hair (what with straightening it and letting it air dry without combing it through). But after I saw myself in the salon's mirror yesterday, my hair feels so much healthier and alive.
As do I!
haha

Feisty.
Also, I'm going to "The Fantasticks" tonight at the Covey Center. So excited! :D

good night, tuesday

Today shall go down in history.
My first ever hair tutorial, perfect for the summer!
I thought I'd get a haircut today, but alas, due to Pioneer Day, all the salons I'd looked at were closed.
Kinda a bummer.
But then I took a nap, calmed down, and decided to do a hair tutorial.
A lot of people liked how my hair looked in this post, so I thought I'd share how to do it! Super easy and super pretty. :) My kinda girlishness.
Now let's get real.

1. Separate your hair in two sections.
(Note: I used day old hair. My hair needs to be a little greasy for it to stick. haha ><)

2. Separate one section of hair into two sections.
3. Twist the sections around up the side of your pretty little head.
4. Pin in place.

Yup. That just happened.

5. Repeat on the other side of your pretty little head.

6. Secure in place with more bobbie pins.
7. Tuck away any fly aways and smooth a little hairspray over the not so smooth places.

this calls for a celebration!

I surprised myself in more ways than one today.

1) I made a successful hairbow.
and
2) I made the Dean's list for the College of Fine Arts.

Happeh Chelsea is happeh.
:)

Stay tuned for my next 30 Things post!
If you could have any super power, what would it be and what would you do with it first?

one of my secrets

Tonight, I sat down and thought about what was on my mind. It's been a long couple of weeks and I needed to be alone for a while. And as I had a glue stick, several magazines, and markers at my disposal, I decided to make a collage.
It's a secret creative outlet of mine. I love finding out what's going on inside my head through pictures and words I can cut out and then paste down on paper. It's intoxicating. Really. That's about as crafty as I get..I'm not much of a seamstress or cook--but I love creating art (if you'd call it art). haha I came up with this collage's little blurb off the top of my head--what I wrote down in permanent marker stayed that way on the first try. And while it isn't perfect, I do enjoy what I made. I think I may make this a habit for the summer. :]

As a side note, I also got an awesome lip balm today at walmart! eos lip balm. I am officially addicted to the stuff. I tried getting a picture of it (as you can see) but the flash wiped out the name! Fiddlesticks.
